The slipper baths (wash baths)
used to be in cabins built of pitch pine with the water controlled by attendants
in white coats outside the cabin. In the 1960's new cabins were put in with
the luxury of you being able to control the temperature and depth of your
own bath. Today you might ask why have baths here at all? When the Victoria
Baths were built the surrounding area was mainly 2 up - 2 down terraced
housing with no room at all for a bath. Most people had a tin bath in front
of the fire, but you could come here to have a "proper" bath or
for family bath night! |
