Municipal Construction: FUNCTION

The machine city and how to catch a moth with light.

“Under the full power of light a secret witnessing of the dissection of the electrical city. The workings of the city bleed into the chambers, corridors of the empty pools of a vacant Edwardian bath house as technology transforms the night.”

This installation piece of video sound and live performance was shown in the Gala Pool at night. The audience were transported to the baths and guided through the dark building by torch light to view the work from the balcony.

“FUNCTION was developed from a free association with the idea of the electrical city, to see what else is present in the hallucinations and electrical visions of the lit city; to listen to the sound which emits from the workings of the habitually inhabited spaces of the city at night; how this environment of electrical charge, underpinning the structures of the constantly powered city, moves through us and what this leaves in our imaginations”
